This book examines Latvian ethnographic symbols and ornaments, traditionally used in folk costumes, knitwear, woodcarvings, textiles, vessels, and jewellery. I wanted to explore this rich ornamentation and show how beautiful these signs are as graphic elements. By experimenting with different colour combinations, they become modern, ornamental compositions that are equally suitable for graphic design.
This book was created as my final project at Falmouth University. It contains the research I have conducted, organised into 13 chapters that present various symbols, colourful ornament illustrations, and bespoke illustrations that convey the story behind each symbol.
